*E-marketer

Why Is Google Buying Content?

Google's recent acquisition of Frommer's is a bold move to increase user convenience in search results especially in mobile usage. Frommer's is a reputable publisher of worldwide travel destinations guides. It provides travel tips on accommodation, sight seeing & eating virtually about anywhere in the world.

Google similarly acquired popular American restaurant guide Zagat last year. The aggregation of quality content stems from the company's desire to improve search results with relevant content & targeted advertising.

With the launch of Knowledge Graph  Google made an important step towards improving search results by connecting searched keyword to relevant real world content such as people, places & things. By providing you the correct information right at the search page Google wants to increase its advertising relevance especially based on location. Moreover Google needs content to display on the Knowledge Graph boxes.

Accurate local content is the key for the future of both search & online advertising especially on mobile. When you are searching for the office building of your next business meeting you rather get a map & address than mere list of websites. And if Google Answers can help you, it's even better. Google understands this and is aiming to provide you with all the good answers right at the search page. By incorporating quality content on travel destination & restaurants Google wants to show you relevant targeted local advertising along with its content.

Google Chrome is now the most popular web browser in Turkey

There is a tough competition between browsers to attract more users by improving usability standards.
Growing up Netscape was my favorite browser, just because it was alternative to Microsoft Internet Explorer and had a cool design. Since Netscape decided to quit the race in 2007 many new browsers mushroomed the web. But one of them has become a game changer especially in disrupting Explorer's domination on the global market: Google Chrome.

According the March 2012 Statistics published by Stat Counter Chrome has now become the most popular web browser in Turkey surpassing Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Google Turkey Official Blog annpuced the news with joy citing "simplicity, security and Android apps" for Chorme's success in Turkish market.

Being the default browser in PC computers Microsoft IE has huge competitive advantage over other web browsers. Nonetheless Google's Chrome managed to lure Turkish PC users away from IE.

So what does really make Chrome so popular?

There are many different answers to this question but the number one is certainly speed. Explorer takes a while to load and crashes very often even in newest computers. When it comes to browsing the quality of user experience is of prime importance. Looking at the global PC usage statistics
IE's domination continues to remain strong even though many users moving away to other alternatives such as Firefox, Safari, Opera &  Chrome.

Overall it is safe to say that the tough competition on browsers between global technology giants will continue in the foreseeable future. Most certainly heavy web users will be the biggest beneficiaries from this competition.

Why Facebook Bought Instagram?

As Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on his Timeline yesterday  Facebook acquired Instagram for $1Bn. The news immediately became a global Trending Topic in Twitter. Previously Facebook bought many compaines notably FriendFeed & Snaptu but this by far is the largest acquisition by global social network giant, especially considering Instagram not having a clear business model yet.

So why spend a billion over a photo app. and why now?
