Generation Z is the technical term for Kids born after the 90's. This recent research by AVG shows how the new generation is using social media. The research has been conducted globally with more than 4000 participants. In Mediterranean countries such as Spain & Italy kids reach media maturity by the age of 10.
In USA 53% of kids are already in social networks even though they are legally not allowed to do so before the age of 13. We are truly witnessing the creation of a brand new generation with very high level of digital connectivity.
According to AVG Security Advisor, Michael McKinnon:
“Children are online at such an early age that many have developed the technical maturity of adults by their tween years. However, they have not developed the equivalent intellectual or emotional maturity necessary to make the right decisions in the many complex situations they face online. The Digital Maturity survey provides encouragement to parents to help tweens develop the skills to use online networks with confidence. Importantly, parents and tweens also need to speak up if they detect an issue.”
