Here we are, winter is coming again and good old Hollywood fashion of wearing dead animals is back! PETA declared this year Eva Longoria, Nicole Ritchie, Ashley Olsen & Christina Ricci as the worst dressed stars based on how much they love to wear dead animals. Remarkably this year Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton are off the list. Paris publicly declared that she stopped wearing fur after watching a short movie filmed by PETA in China.

What a visit - Pope is in Turkey

Pope Benedict XVI is holding a very controversial visit to Turkey, after his speech last summer on Islam and Mohamed created a huge turmoil in the Islamic world, the pope is now tyring to make it up for it. As soon as he arrived he said that he wants Turkey be part of the EU and then paid a visit to Atatürk's mausoleum finally he waived the Turkish flag... (seen above) What else a pope can do to get the sympathy of the people in the country he is visiting?

Racism par Excellence

Last night after a UEFA Cup game between Paris St. Germain & Hapoel Tel Aviv a brawl resulted with the death of one and injury of another after being shot by the police. The incident at a McDonald's near the Parc des Princes stadium occurred after Hapoel Tel Aviv's 4-2 victory over PSG. The officer, - who happens to be a black man - was trying to protect a french Hapoel Tel Aviv fan set upon by some 150 PSG supporters. He lobbed tear gas when the crowd went after him then fired two shots, "having been driven into a corner," police said.

Hooliganism, overt racism and fan violence have plagued PSG and, more generally, French football, attackers hurled 'Sale Juif, Sale Negre, Vive La France'

Female Genital Mutilation

Muslim scholars join rare anti-female circumcision summit in Cairo informed Haaretz newspaper today. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) or more commonly known as female circumcision is a widespread tradition in many African countries & cultures.

Female genital mutilation usually involves removal of the clitoris. Those who practice it believe it lowers a girl's sexual desires and thus helps maintain her honor. With age-old cultural roots, it is practiced today in parts of sub-Saharan Africa and Egypt and other parts of the Arab world such as Yemen and Oman.

An estimated 50 percent of schoolgirls in Egypt are thought to undergo the procedure, according to the Egyptian government statistics.

UNICEF says an estimated 3 million women and girls undergo female genital mutilation each year and that the age at which it is carried out is getting lower in some countries. A survey conducted in 2000 in Ethiopia indicated 80 percent of women between 15-49 years of age there had been circumcised.

In the verge of civil war

The assassination of Christian State Minister Pierre Gemayel, an outspoken critic of Syrian involvement in Lebanon points the fingers of blame to Damascus. However, pure political and diplomatic logic makes it difficult to see Bashar Assad's regime behind the assassination. Syria has just scored historical political points by renewing full diplomatic relations with Iraq. Moreover, Syria was in the verge of a political success, falling Fuad Siniora's government, which is key to prevent Damascus to be prosecuted in Harriri murder trial.

This is the fifth political assassination in the past year in lamentable Lebanon. This puzzled people who try so hardly to remain under the same flag, but failed to become a nation, gives us a glimpse of how extremely difficult will be to hold together an ethnically divided Iraq.

WWF-Türkiye 2006 yazında Adana Akyatan'da 22km.lik sahili kaplumbağa yuvalama alanı olduğu için koruma altına aldı. Gördüğüm en ilginç yumurtadan çıkış fotosu da işte bu sahilde çekildi. Kaplumbağalar yumurtadan çıktıktan sonra denize koşarlar, denizlerde başlayan bu yolculuk yüzyılı aşkın yaşamları boyunca devam eder. Yumurtlamak için doğdukları sahile geri dönerler.
